Healing catchments for community well-being in Tairāwhiti

The eight week pilot Tairāwhiti Agroecology Recovery Project (TARP) was made possible by COVID-19 redeployment funding received via the Provincial Development Unit and administered by DOC. TARP is a collaborative venture of hapū/iwi, DOC, and the Tairawhiti Environment Centre, supported by a range of Government agencies including the Ministry of Social Development, and other conservation groups working towards catchment restoration in Tairāwhiti.

Teeline based around handwriting took me six months to learn. I was then able practise and developed speed over time by listening, and transcribing radio and tv. Koranga Forks Hut in “mint condition”

Families looking for an overnight adventure tramp close to Gisborne are reminded the Koranga Forks Hut has been upgraded. A team from Department of Conservation (DoC) had recently completed maintenance on the track from the hut to the Moanui road-end, as well as cleaned and repaired the hut leaving it in “mint condition”. Cooks Cove Walkway in Tolaga Bay, is the region’s most-walked Department of Conservation (DoC) track. It has had the first stage of an upgrade completed in collaboration with DoC and landowners Hauiti Incorporation.To improve the overall visitor experience, extensive upgrades were completed on two sections of the walkway and a new Waharoa (gateway) was built at the entrance.
