I attended a New Zealand story workshop which was relevant to me as a storyteller/heritage research writer. The workshop took us through exploring our inner storyteller with the aim of creating a nation of storytellers. Our great stories are often left untold and not seen or heard in competitive global environments. New Zealand story has been set up by the government to enhance our reputation beyond natural beauty and to ensure we tell a broad, compelling and aspirational story about our country

ARTICLE - Building and maintaining relationships with the media from a PR perspective

As a public relations practitioner working for business, one of the most important relationships to be nurtured is that with the media. The building of such a relationship isn’t achieved overnight it takes considerable time and effort. Practising good media relations is an ongoing task, not a last-minute effort employed only when publicity is required. Co-operation with the media is essential and central to succeeding in business. In this article the public relations professional/journalist relationship is explored drawing on findings in research on the topic.


When family and friends from out of town come to visit, I’m inevitably put on the spot to come up with local highlights to show them. Mentally, I run through all my favourite places in town – cafés, sights and adventures, etc. Gray’s Bush Scenic Reserve in Gisborne is always in my top five. In April, two new Toyota Kiwi Guardian adventure sites were launched in Gisborne - one at Gray’s Bush Scenic Reserve and another at Okitu Bush Scenic Reserve. Toyota Kiwi Guardians is an activity programm


Ohope Scenic Reserve provided the opportunity to tell unique stories of the history of the respective area and the people. This project involved project planning, research, writing, sourcing images and working with other parties; Ngati Awa, Whakatane Kiwi Trust,  DOC staff, and designers. All interpretation panels are Crown copyright credit to Department of Conservation,/Te Papa Atawhai..
